Damn I missed this place. When I first signed up here in 2016 I was still in a long term rehab, hoping that this time it would work, and it did...for a little while. In Apr 2017, after a heated argument with staff there, I stormed out. Not having a plan but running straight off adrenaline cause it was that intense I just kept going, aimless. By that afternoon I had already messed up and for the next 5mnths it was sleeping on the streets of the Lower East Side and Midtown Manhattan, detox then the streets. Iver and over and over.
In Sept I had just happened to get some WiFi on my Obama phone (his office was worth something at least)and saw a message on fb from a person I've not seen nor talked to in 25yrs, an old ex. From that moment I said fuck this life. I went to detox, completed, went to the shelter for a minute and then left NY. 1st back to my roots in Jersey and now upstate Pa. I worked side jobs, saved money, got a used car and somehow, by Gods grace or just a fluke, just landed a sweet job for $20hr at an aluminum plant, full benefits and union.
Now my life has a better meaning. Now the thoughts, obsessions and compulsions to use or even drink have gone.
Now I just gotta get this body in full gear and back under the iron. Cool thing about my new job...fully stocked gym for employees and their families and AA/NA meetings once a week if needed.
What more could a guy want...it feels good to be back.
