Just got out of a distrubing meeting "How to respnod to active threat in workplace"

I work a one of the major players in the telecommunication (won't say yet). I got out of a meeting that was disturbing. Meeting was what to do if an active threat was at workplace.
Step 1: Run
Step 2: Hide if you can't run
Step 3: FIGHT as a last resort and when your life is in imminent danger. Maintain element of surprise and get other to to join. Attempt to incapacitate the active threat. ACT WITH PHYSICAL AGGRESSION, USE OFFICE ITEMS AS WEAPONS.

WHAT THE FUCK? I'll get fired for bring my firearm even though I have a valid consealed weapons permit but they want me to fight with office items lmao. The only thing I punch at work is keyboard keys lol. At the end of meeting, they made me sign to show that I willingly participated. Fuck that shit, I signed nothing lol. Am I crazy to think that my company is covering their asses because they may know something is on the horizon?.

My ass is talking to a lawyer about this because my non tactical'ness already see so many things that WILL GO WRONG. For those that know workplace law, can you please let me know if I did right thing by not signing? I don't know what the recourse is, but I'll play stupid if asked why I didn't sign.

I am not trying to spread conspiracy theories but WTF lol. What has corporate merica turned into?

Wait a minute....."use office items as weapons"....what do they want you to do?......come up from behind with a stapler?

You could make Chinese stars out of zerox paper :)

Things are getting pretty screwy from the liberal leftist snowflakes.
Before you know it you’re gonna end up being an issue at your company because of your cpl. it’s important we all get out and vote for the midterms!!!!

lol, that is a great idea because I must say I am great at making paper airplanes. The most fucked up thing about my meeting is they didn't provide me with the skills to differentiate an imminent active threat vs a co worker that is getting on my nerves lol.

I love how they said "get others to join"...FUCK THAT SHIT. I don't need no fat ass no slow me down and get me killed lol. The majority of my co workers have been with company for over 20 years and are close to retirement.

Thats the BS thing about this meeting... the reader read from a script and even started meeting off with "this is BS" lol. I summed up all of the info that was provided. I guess I can throw rotary phone at threat lol.

I know I won't be throwing no cannabis products at threat. I wonder what would happen if a threat actually happened and I defended bu breaking the glass of vape cart to make it sharp and suceeded on demobilizing threat...would I get fired b/c its a cannabis product on company grounds lol?

Lol.....yea....you'd be a hero for minute then arrested for paraphernalia.

I will say a lot of these mass killings could have had less casusaltys if an armed guard or legal license carrying citizen had a weapon on them. And its easy to say sitting here safe but all these ppl who lie down to get shot in the back of the head. Fuck that gonna have to shoot me in the chest or face. It only took what 4 ppl on 9/11 to rush that cockpit and save who knows how many.

Hey I’ve been through the same thing at my old job.
A big reason is because the old method of just hiding in the corner is kind of bad news. If you can get away then that’s the best method. If you can’t run obviously hide. And if a threat is presented, obviously sitting there is gonna leave you to get capped in the head so taking down the active shooter is the best in that scenario.

I believe that forcing you to sign a sheet you were REQUIRED to attend that says you WILLINGLY participated is coercion in the workplace. I'm no attorney, but I recommend speaking with one immediately.

If you get asked into a meeting about it request legal counsel be present. That will trip up your superiors and make them debate even having the meeting. If they ask why say because you feel uncomfortablely pressured and would prefer some counsel that has your best interest in mind.

I had to do a computer module at work and take a test on the same subject. Companies are worried now about mass shootings so they trying to inform people what they should do or the signs so you can tell on anyone who threatens to shoot up the place. Most likely their insurance company or legal dept is trying to absolve the company of any libility as well

I too work in a corporate environment that does not allow me to carry my weapon on the premises. I hate it! I secretly carry a Pocket Shot and 7/16 metal bearings in my briefcase, just in case. I realize that an active shooter situation will be damn near impossible to twart with such a weapon BUT, I'd rather have a minimal fighting chance, than no chance at all.

I saw an article last week talking about armed security in churchs now.. what has this world become?

Same for me, I have my ccw for 30 years now (in my state) I work over the border in another state that isn't very gun friendly, so I cant even have it in my car. (Also against company rules anyways).

Sucks...

i worked at a very large company few years back and every week i was to sign safety sheets, harassment sheets, personal responsibility sheets, you name it any legal bullshit they could think of so they where always in the clear of any legal situation putting all responsibility on you the employee. now that is what it is in todays socitity but each week they would also require me to bend or break one of their rules in order to complete a task. i would bring this up and was told just dont get caught.. these assholes where the ones doing the catching so they could set up any employee at any time to fire them. this kept everyone in fear all the time and when somebody would lawyer up the company would just pay them off and move on.. alot of people today are willing to simply give up and except what companies do..

they like everyone else put pants on to cover there own ass..
