Serious Question on making my own gear

i have been tossing around the ideal of attempting to make my own gear,i like to try everything once
that being said any information would be greatly appreciated..
such as best tools for the trade and the best raws to use and what works best to cut it with.
hopefully no one is offended by this post, if so i do apologize..my curiosity has gotten the best of me on this
