My name is Ryan, I’m 32 and have been into fitness regularly since early 20’s. I’ve went through different phases of goals from bodybuilding to powerlifting and generalized fitness. I’m also a father of 3 little ones that are my biggest love!
I joined the Army back in 2005 as an infantryman which was the greatest decision I’ve ever made in life. I served my first deployment from 2005-2006 in Falujah Iraq without too many mishaps for myself but it was a rough year in all for every branch involved, thankfully my unit made it with only injuries on this go. As you can probably imagine the military is where I fell in love with fitness, at this point my biggest goal was overall functional fitness. I spent most of my time state side after my deployment training in the field and gyms and of course enjoying my time partying. I was stationed at Fort Hood so we would frequent Austin a lot, great time for the young single folks.
So 2007 rolls around and my units gearing up for the next deployment so we spend most of the year training hard, I attended some marksmanship schools at Fort Benning to get ready for my new assignment.
In 2008 we took off to Mosul Iraq this time where I spent the tour as a designated marksman, amounted to a pretty cool tour for me as most of my job was done from a rooftop with an M-14. There’s really not a lot I can say about it but mostly my job was to take our HVT’s, this tour was hot and my unit took some heavy losses. 2009 shows up and we’re getting ready to pack up and start heading home, we only had a few missions left to complete so one day we left the COP just like any normal day. Unfortunately for us there was a large IED and my vehicle hit it, EOD later believed it was three 155mm shells stacked up with a pressure plate ignition. Long story short it was rough and just about totaled our vehicle instantly killing the gunner, driver and passenger, I was in the rear of the MRAP and was the only survivor. I took a decent chunk of shrapnel to my left shin area which resulted in some pretty shitty injuries but it missed the bone thankfully. I also broke my hip and had a pretty rough concussion but thankfully I was alive as the rest were not that lucky. I spent some time in the hospital we had on our FOB in Iraq but I needed multiple surgeries so I was sent to Germany where a few were done, from there I flew back to Fort Hood and had the last few follow ups done. I spent a lot of time after that doing physical therapy until I could walk again, my leg was completely rebuilt so that was a big challenge. After I was cleared for duty I spent rest of my time with my unit training new privates coming along from basic in MOUT, in 2011 my unit was set to deploy again so I chose to take the medical retirement I was offered.
Now I’m out of the Army and back in NY, after 6 years in the service and all I went through it took some time to adjust. I won’t bore you with the boring details and filler but I ended up meeting my wife and starting a family.
So the past 7 years I’ve been spending getting back what I lost, I had lost so much size, strength and general health from my injuries. It took me a few years to get back into fitness and get off all the pain killers but life’s been pretty good since.
I’ve bounced around from powerlifting and bodybuilding in that time but now my goal is really to maintain health and lean out again, if I lose some size that’s fine as my hip has been bothering me.
I’m on TRT with 100mg a week now and I’ve ran some test cycles in the past, I have experience with a decent amount of compounds but have never touched tren or too many orals. I’m trying to get over some pain issues now and have been considering trying more peptides or HGH.
For work now I do mason/concrete work in update NY, otherwise it’s just me the wife and the kids living life.
