Loss of strength

I think you might be joking here but I'm not sure.

at my peak when on CompTren last year, that was my right arm PR on smith machine (which I am sure, but never looked into it) reduces the weight so actual weight is probably 25lbs less and smith machine keeps the bar in a linear motion so I didn't have to worry about balancing bar with 1 arm. To give you an idea how much more weight I can put on smith machine then free weights.... my dumbbell slight incline bench 1 rep max during this same time period was 90lbs. Smith machine worked great for me when doing end of workout burnouts as I didn't have a spotter, but preferred to workout alone as I didn't like to talk to other humans when on CompTren lol.

Ha. I hate the smith machine. It's not natural. It'll eventually give you an injury. I work out alone also but I would rather ask someone for a spot than use the smith machine. Normally I keep to myself but most guys at the gym know me as the guy that's gonna ask for a spot on bench.

I used to as well but when I was training at a YMCA I'd do Smith machine floor presses...Yes the movement was fixed position but done after regular bench I'd get fairly heavy and found it effective for lockout strength.. Also would sometimes use it for good mornings or shrugs after exp. with it I found a few assistance lifts I no longer looked at it the same again.

I agree that smith machine isn't natural, neither are any machines nor are we lol. But for me and sounds like for Donkeykong, that we both only use smith machines for certain lifts. However, every so often, I'd use smith machine for everthing that I can do on it for couple weeks and then switch back to free weights and machines.

(another great thing I found is 1 arm cable flys. You can pivot your body so you get a deep stretch then with 2 arm. Also replace lat bar w/ cable handle and do 1 arm lat pulldown. Once again, I feel a much deeper stretch then with 2 arms on bar.)
