So I'm giving my body a break. Trying to heal up some stuborn areas. And I've had some advice to just go light. So I have here lately.
I took about 5 days off. And went back in to do chest. I only used 115lbs total. 5 sets 25reps each. Incline press with 35lbs couple sets and butterfly machine with 50lbs. All high reps or high for me. And DAMN I'm sore! Like more sore than I have been in a long time. Did back and used 115 to deadlift. And some other back exercises. All high reps .
I'm going to continue this for another week or two. If I continue to get this sore. I might just have to stick with it. Lol

Only need a few lifts or sets at reasonable weight to keep STREGTH and size
But working under unrested muscle us tied and gotta put out. When muscle fatigued to failure lighter weights, muscle had no clue of actual weight

But your connective tissue sure knows difference in weight
Trick muscles let connective tissue heal. Done this many times and while on gear I grew

I have found that as I have gotten older its not worth to go heavy anymore....way too much risk for injury and I have found out the hard way a few times. I can get just as good of a pump and burn by using lighter weights and higher reps and still maintain muscle mass. I also make a conscience effort to go slow with movements so I am getting both the eccentric and concentric contractions and it has been working for years for me.

Right there with you. The old joints don’t hold up as well. Doing similar and feel great

At 48 years old I do light weight high reps 90% of the time.

There’s a time and place for the heavy, of your still building, u need the heavy weight for density, I don’t think I’ll ever stop building, so I do it for 3/4 months then pump it, but go to failure always.

Same here bro. Get just as good results with lighter weight and focusing on total time under tension. I always did enjoy phat training, perfect mix of heavy and light weight. Made my best progress ever on that program!

...not familiar with 'Phat' training...gotta a link?

Some people’s bodies hold up well with heavier weights, I’m not one of them. My heavy days are long gone and I’m ok with it. It does kinda get in your head sometimes because people’s who don’t any better just expect someone with some muscle to be throwing around crazy high weight. Just gotta realize you’re in it for the long haul. I can’t tell you the last time I benched 315.

My gym buddies have been cracking on me. I squatted Thursday with 225 only. Yesterday shoulder presses I used 35lb dumbbells. And my shoulders are my biggest problem areas.
But I'm not hurting as bad as I have been. So am I cool with a little heat from my buddies. They know I'm trying to heal my shoulder.

I don't even talk to a soul at gym.... lol!! Ear phones in whole time.
But my light weight is still heavier than most guys at gyms heavy.... lol

One u heal up then go heavier but not like before at problem areas.

Flat bench I don't go over 275 ever... shoulders I use Smith machine seated for presses. All other presses are on loaded plate machines I got photo of one that is Smooth I will grab it

This type machine best for helping shoulders while hitting chest. I load it up with 1 more plate per side, but like that when hurt.

We've got one and I use it regularly. Way easier than incline dumbell presses I think. Dont have to fumble around picking up, setting down, etc. I usually just go with a set of plates. Plates and 35s my max on it.

I think we all sometimes forget the big picture.
The big picture is the body adapts to what it needs to.
So if you lift two times a day with heavy weights and eat protein, you’re going to add muscle and drop fat.

Does anybody think We make this shit too complicated because we don’t want to work hard? Or because we don’t want to put in that much time?

I know two a days (tons of volume) with drugs and food has always worked for me... I just don’t want to do two a days because I’ve gotten older and I’m lazy.

I was looking into it a bit since you mentioned earlier.

It's a great program, I ended up making my own program based around phat training and was able to finally break 220 pounds body weight at sub 10% body fat. This was always my goal when I first started working out in my early 20s because then I was 110 pounds and I wanted to be double that weight. Took me over 10 years but I finally made it! Took a little over a year off and have really been just using lighter weight and more time under tension but it might be time to give this phat training a try again!
