Hey bruthas. Last few weeks have been a nightmare but everything turned out alright...
My father was at his jui jitzu and he suffered a stroke. His coach drove him to the hospital which is lucky a couple minutes away from where they train. I got the phone call and my heart dropped. Sped like a Madman to the hospital. His first CT scans showed bleeding in his brain which is very dangerous. They then had him airlifted up to Portland which has more neuro expertise. Fear of losing someone who is your biggest role model was so hard and not knowing if I was going to see him Alive the next time I saw him was heart wrenching. Long story short the bleeding stopped spreading and he stabilizedS
But I just wanted to go onto here for ONE MAIN reason.
If you guys have high blood pressure and aren’t taking your prescription (like my fathers case alongside strenuous activity) you may feel just fine and all the sudden have a stroke. It’s called the silent killer for a reason. It’s super easy to take your medication. This can happen to anyone. My dad was younger for a stroke at 46. And I knew a guy at 28 too.
Just am super thankful for a lot of things and I am thankful for this board. And know many of you have families. My dad got lucky and didn’t die or get some serious serious after effects (mainly weakness in right side, specifically arm. And fine motor skills are damaged which will affect his work as a mental health therapist because he writes a lot of reports and like most people he has a slur)
We have him all set up for therapies and such.
But just the take home that he got from all this, and that we all could take is “it’s as easy as taking one simple pill and none of this would’ve happened” now he’s suffering side effects and we are trying get the hospital bills down too.
So just take care of your health guys. Seeing him cry and tell me if he didn’t make it that I’d need to take care of my little brother as well as my son. Your family needs you around. Please do the simple things like taking your meds.
