I gave up trying to figure out how the thing works! I just opened a Coinbase wallet and I can buy from my bank or a credit card. The place you buy from will give you a total and an address which is a long string of numbers. I just copy and paste in coinbase and hit send. Scary to me only because you can't see who gets the coins. It does work though although it drives me nuts until I get confirmation from the seller. You are not alone!

or is purchasing from coinbase then tranfering to Mycelium then sending funds pretty annoymous (safe)?

What I have found to work:

Get a coinbase account
Link bank/card
Purchase bitcoins from coinbase (the worst part is the 5 days wait time)
Once bitcoins are received into you wallet, transfer to an anonymous bitcoin app like mycelium
Send bitcoins from mycelium to receiver
Done


Now if there is something like coinbase, but instant, i'd be all over it

Just by using it more you get more verification. A credit card helps too. When I used my desktop to use it I got prompts on getting more verification that I don't get using the mobile site.
Prompts were to buy certain amounts and as I did them it eventually became instantaneous, it takes a few minutes but it's close to instant

Any info on CoinJar? Seems pretty good just from a little reading
