The best reason to use encrypted email for those sensitive communications, such as ordering from your favorite sponsor. If you have to use such an open service best to encrypt the content of the messages themselves so that they are not readable, and only you and the receiver have the keys.

Never use public mail services (Yahoo, Gmail, AOL, etc) for private conversation. When you trust your private info to them, you look like a dancer in stripclub. IMO, mail service like Hushmail is one of the best to keep your private info secured.
