How to delete your smartphone data securely before selling your device.

Very good info there, and I've got a few devices I am going to be selling so this is a must to securely wipe all data from the device beforehand. One thing: DON'T forget to backup the device before wiping, if you want to keep the data to transfer to a new device.

In fact I recently bought an android off ebay from a phone reseller, and when I got it I checked it out. Lo and behold, it was not properly wiped and I happened to find the contact list and emails of the previous owner, who was a businesswoman. Being the honest person I am (considering I am an IT systems admin) I notified the device's previous owner after ascertaining her email, and she was dumbstruck at what I found. I offered to send her a backup copy of the data (which I did to an SD card) I proceeded to encrypt then wipe the device (I learned this from the telecom guy at work). Once I am satisfied no personal info is still on the device I set it up for my use and it worked well.

Moral of the story, be careful how you wipe Androids before you sell them!

This is a serious flaw of the Android design as iPhones on the other hand encrypt sensitive data automatically and a reset on that device deletes the internal encryption keys so that data is not recoverable.
